Annual Summaries
A variety of national, state, and port summary reports are available from the Transborder Freight Data.
Users should note some of the following information when using this summary data:
Summary figures for 1993-1996 include data for transshipments (i.e., shipments which entered or exited the United States by way of a US Customs port even when the actual origin or destination was other than the United States.)
Summary reports for 1997 will not include transshipment data.
For import shipments from Canada or Mexico, the US state refers to the state of destination for a shipment, and is based on the address for the importer of record.
For export shipments to Canada or Mexico, the US state typically refers to the state of origin where the goods were grown, manufactured or otherwise produced.
Importers and exporters of shipments report the surface mode of transportation on trade documents. Intermodal transport is not a reporting option on these documents, although intermodal shipments do occur in trade between the US and Canada and Mexico.
The mode of transportation at an individual US port is the mode in use when the shipment entered or exited the US port.
