Railway Network (1:100,000 base scale) (Line) - Data Dictionary

Abstract: The Rail Network is a comprehensive database of the nation's railway system at the 1:100,000 scale. The data set covers all 50 States plus the District of Columbia.

Purpose: The data set provides location and partial attribute information for use in national and regional network analysis applications.

Supplemental Information: At the time of publishing the CD significant updates to the layer were underway. Please check http://gis.fra.dot.gov for the latest version of the dataset

0	FID	Internal feature number.	Long Integer representing an object identifier
1	Shape	Feature geometry.	Geometry
2	ID	The link ID in the network structure.	Double Precision Floating Point
3	LENGTH	Length of the segment	Double Precision Floating Point
4	FRAID	The link ID in the network structure.	Double Precision Floating Point
5	NET	Use status.	Character String
6	RROWNER1	The reporting mark of the 1st owning railroad. A mark of 'XXXX' indicates an abandoned link. Rule 260 codes are used where available. A mark of 'DUMX' indicates an added connecting link.	Character String
7	RROWNER2	The reporting mark of the 2nd owning railroad, if any.	Character String
8	RROWNER3	The reporting mark of the 3rd owning railroad, if any.	Character String
9	TR1	Reporting mark of the 1st railroad having trackage-rights.	Character String
10	TR2	Reporting marks of any additional railroads having trackage rights.	Character String
11	TR3	Reporting marks of any additional railroads having trackage rights.	Character String

29	MILITARY	Type of military interest flag - this code should match the publication 'Civil Rail Lines Important to 'National Defense, September, 2003'.	Character String

31	FIPS5	The five character FIPS code for the county of the link.	Character String
32	FRA_REG	FRA region number (Leading zeros count)	Character String
33	DENSITY	Density Category for the latest year available, 2003.	Single Precision Floating Point
34	RR_CLASS	Railroad classification code. Filled for all CLASS 1 railroads and most CLASS 2 & 3.	Character String
35	SIGNALS	Type of signaling system.	Character String
36	LAST_DEN	The density code for the previous year. This value uses the same values as the latest year's density code above.	Double Precision Floating Point
37	RAILROAD	Rail name	Character String
38	FROM_FRAID	The FRA assigned node number at the topological start of the link	Double Precision Floating Point
39	TO_FRAIDN	The FRA assigned node number at the topological end of the link	Double Precision Floating Point

41	VERSION	The VERSION is a 2-digit number that will be incremented for all records in the database whenever a new release is distributed.	Character String
42	REVISION	The REVISION is a 2-digit number that will be incremented individually for each record whenever a change is made to one of its fields	Character String
