Total Transportation Fatalities (annual data, all modes)
(1999 and 2000 data are preliminary, and do not include transit)
Fatalities represent the most severe safety consequence for the transportation system.
According to preliminary estimates, in 2000 there were 44,041 transportation-related
fatalities, compared to 47,348 in 1990.
