compared to June of the previous year.

June 2001 air freight revenue load factor was at its
second lowest level in ten years, following the record low set in April.
Air passenger revenue load factor declined by more than 3 percent between
June 2000 and June 2001, the fifth consecutive month below the previous year’s value.

| Air carrier revenue for the year ending in the second quarter of
2001 declined at the sharpest rate in the eight years of data
currently available. All revenue components experienced sharp
declines, with the worst performance in freight revenue.

| Air carriers experienced a negative
real return on assets in the year ending in June 2001, the lowest
annual return since the third quarter of 1993. The second quarter
of 2001 was also the third consecutive quarter with a negative real
return on assets.
