NOTES: 2004 data are preliminary. General aviation includes any civil aircraft operation that is not
covered under 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
Parts 121, 129, or 135, commonly referred to as commercial air carrier
operations. The 2001 spike in commercial
aviation fatalities is the result of the terrorist acts of September 11; these
data only include fatalities of persons aboard the 4 aircraft. Commerical aviation includes air carriers operating under 14 CFR Part 121 only, both scheduled and nonscheduled service.
