NOTES: Federal transportation
expenditures consist of outlays of the federal government including not only
direct spending but also grants made to state and local governments. To avoid
double counting, state and local transportation expenditures include their outlays
from all sources of funds except federal grants received. Pipeline data only
include federal-level expenditures, as state and local data are not available.
State and local data are reported together, because disaggregated federal
grants data are not available.
To eliminate the effects of inflation
over time, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics converted current dollars
(see table 10-3b in appendix B) to chained 2000 dollars.
