Intercity Bus Atlas: Participation
By volunteering to participate, Intercity Bus Atlas (ICBA) service providers (Providers) support the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) work in studying and documenting the fundamental role of the intercity bus industry to the nation's transportation system.
Participation and registration
Providers opt-in to the ICBA by agreeing to the terms of the ICBA Memorandum of Understanding contained on the web-based Registration Form. After agreeing to the terms of the MOU, the Provider is entered into a one-year agreement with BTS for their data; this agreement automatically renews once-a-year unless the Provider writes to BTS with a termination request.
Based on a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License, the ICBA MOU permits BTS to collect, compile, publish and archive the Provider's GTFS data at least once a year but no more than four times a year. The MOU additionally (1) compels BTS to attribute the data to the Provider, (2) prohibits it from using the data for a commercial purpose, and (3) disallows it from making substantive material alterations to the submitted data.
The data represented on BTS' ICBA products (data, maps, or GIS layers) are intended to be snapshots of intercity scheduled passenger services in the United States; they are not intended for trip planning, scheduling, navigation, or any real-time or near-real-time purposes. While using the data for research, analysis, and planning is permitted and encouraged, all other reuses of the data are prohibited.
