Notes: Crashes involving distraction in 2010 should not be compared to crashes involving distraction for prior years due to significant changes in data collection and methodology. Fatal crashes include those in which at least one person was killed. Injury crashes include nonfatal crashes in which at least one person was injured. Crashes include single-vehicle, multi-vehicle, pedestrian-vehicle, and bicycle-vehicle crashes. Fatal crash data are reported in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), a nationwide census providing data regarding fatal injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. Injury and property damage only crash data are estimates from the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS) General Estimates System (GES), a nationally representative sample of police reported motor vehicle crashes.
