Commercial Truck Fuel Consumption by Average Weight

This line graph shows fuel consumption of commercial trucks by the average weight of the truck. The x-axis shows the average vehicle weight in pounds and the y-axis shows fuel consumption in gallons per 100 miles. The heavier a truck is the more fuel is consumed. Trucks weighing 20,000 pounds use consume about 11 gallons per 100 miles while trucks weighing 140,000 pounds consume about 19 gallons per 100 miles.

Notes:

Data excludes pickups, SUVs, and light vans. “Average vehicle weight” is the average operating weight, which is vehicle weight plus payload.
