eVIUS - The Electric Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey
If you need assistance with completing your survey, please head to our Information for Respondents page
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics is surveying a national sample of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to collect information about the general use of these vehicles, as well as charging behavior of EV owners. The data will be used to inform policy related to electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
What is eVIUS:
What is the Electric Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (eVIUS) and what is its purpose?
The Electric Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (eVIUS) is the first national survey on electric vehicles (EVs) and is being administered to gain an in-depth understanding of the characteristics and uses of EVs on our nation’s roadways, as well as EV charging patterns and preferences. The eVIUS will be administered in 2024 and will focus on EV usage during 2023 and 2024.
How will eVIUS data be Used?
The survey will provide data on electric vehicle (EV) usage as well as charging patterns and preferences and will inform public policy on EVs and investment decisions related to EV infrastructure. These data will support U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) strategic goals related to climate, sustainability, safety, equity, and transformation. These data can be used by public agencies at all levels, private companies, and other stakeholders to make evidence-based decisions about EV manufacturing and infrastructure and can help cities, counties, and other jurisdictions identify the locations where they should build EV-charging infrastructure.
When will eVIUS data be collected?
The eVIUS data collection will begin in the fall of 2024 and will be completed by early 2025.
When will eVIUS data be released?
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics anticipates releasing the eVIUS data to the public in 2025.
