Figure 2 provides a breakout of the percentage of people employed in the different modes of transportation in the most recent calendar year, 2009. Trucking, air, and transit are the largest modal components of transportation employment, comprising 51, 19, and 17 percent, respectively, in 2009.1 Rail, water, and pipeline 2 make up the remaining 13 percent.
