a Airline pilots fly and navigate the flight of multi-engine aircraft in regularly scheduled service for the transport of passengers and cargo. They must have a Federal Air Transport rating and certification in specific aircraft type used.

b Commercial pilots fly and navigate the flight of fixed-wing aircraft on nonscheduled air carrier routes, or helicopters. They must have a Commercial Pilot certificate. This category includes charter pilots with similar certification, and air ambulance and air tour pilots. This category includes air courier pilots. It excludes regional, National, and international airline pilots.
