The safety of the traveling public is of major
concern
for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Although
progress has been made in reducing fatalities, roughly 45 percent of
U.S. deaths due to unintentional injury involve transportation. Roughly 95
percent of these transportation fatalities
arise from motor vehicle crashes.
