NOTE: Wages are estimated by multiplying average wage by number of employees in each state. For Class I railroads, average wates are estimated based on aggregate data which incorporates fringe benefits, assumed to be 37.5 percent of wages. For non-Class I railroads, average wages are estimated based on 2008 sample data with a three percent inflation rate and incorporates fringe benefits, assumed to be 37.5 percent of wages. Historically, fringe benefits have not been included in this table.
