What We're About

Our mission is to lead in developing transportation data and information of high quality, and to advance their effective use in both public and private transportation decision making.

Our mission is the starting point for all of our programs and actions. It is a broad responsibility derived from legislation, in which Congress gives the agency life and sets the bounds for what we do. We dont come here with a blank slatethe mission is our given. But from there, its left for us to dream what might be done in the broader context of todays (and tomorrows) transportation system.
