NOTES: Investment in transportation infrastructure constitutes the purchase or construction
value of transportation facilities and structures. Data include all modes except pipeline. In addition,
federal government data on rail infrastructure investments are not available, and state and local rail
infrastructure investment data are only available from 1993–2000. Investment in rolling stock
data consist of government outlays for motor vehicles only, because data for other rolling stock (e.g.,
aircraft, vessels, and boats) are not available. State and local transportation investment data are not
available separately.
Current dollar amounts (see tables 14-5b, 14-6b, and 14-7b in appendix B) were converted to chained 2000
dollars by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to eliminate the effects of inflation over time.
