This line graph shows petroleum as percent of transportation energy and transportation as percent of U.S. petroleum use. Petroleum use in transportation energy dropped below 90 percent for the first time since the 1950s. Transportation as a percent of petroleum use has been increasing since the 1980s and was around 70 percent in 2023.
