Note:
New and used motor vehicles includes all purchased consumer vehicles. Private transportation includes purchases made by households on new and used motor vehicles; motor fuel; motor vehicle parts and equipment; motor vehicle insurance; and motor vehicle fees. Public transportation includes fares for mass transit, buses, trains, airlines, taxis, school buses for which a fee is charged, and boats. Taxis are included in intracity transportation. The bases for indexes are as follows: (1) Indexes on a December 1997=100 base. (2) Special index based on a smaller sample. (3) Indexes on a December 2007=100 base. (4) Indexes on a December 2009=100 base. (All others) Average of 1982 to 1984=100.
