What is BTS?

How is this site organized?

The items under the top menu Topics and Geography allow you to dive into BTS content through your general area of interest, including a specific mode of transportation.

If you know the name of the BTS product you're looking for, you can most likely find it under the top menu, Statistical Products and Data. If you can't find it there, try the A-Z Index, available at the top of every page, which offers a more comprehensive list.

And, you can't go wrong by starting with our Search box, available at the top of every page.

In addition to statistics, reports, and analysis, BTS also provides direct access to the Federal government's most authoritative and comprehensive transportation data. If you're ready to explore the data, try TranStats  for commercial aviation data or data.bts.gov for other topic areas. 

Get started with general transportation information:

  • Transportation Statistics Annual Report a description of transportation trends, contributing factors, and the state of transportation statistics
  • Pocket Guide to Transportation, a book and cell phone app with visualizations that highlight key national transportation statistics
  • The Week in Transportation for flash estimates of daily and weekly transportation activity by mode, comparing 2020 to 2019, updated every Tuesday
  • Monthly Transportation Statistics for the latest monthly and quarterly data for more than 60 time-series from nearly two dozen sources from across government and the transportation industry, updated continuously
  • National Transportation Statistics for over 250 tables of statistics summarizing all aspects of transportation and the consequences of transportation as far back as 1960, updated quarterly
  • State Transportation Statistics and States by the Numbers for tables of statistics and visualizations summarizing all aspects of transportation and the consequences of transportation, updated as new data become available
