Preliminary Estimates

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) utilizes a specialized regression-based model to forecast preliminary estimates for Aviation Enplanements, Transit Ridership, Amtrak Ridership, TransBorder Freight data and Vehicle Miles Traveled. 

BTS uses linear regression models that calculate correlations between preliminary indicators and full historical datasets to provide timely, "preliminary" ridership estimates before final audited numbers are available.
