August 2020 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) Down 1.3% from July

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 1.3% in August from revised July, declining after two months of increases, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). From August 2019 to August 2020, the index fell 7.4% compared to a rise of 3.9% from August 2018 to August 2019 and a rise of 5.7% from August 2017 to August 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

July 2020 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) rose 2.5% from April 2020 low

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.3% in July from June, rising for the third consecutive month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS).  From July 2019 to July 2020, the index fell 7.8% compared to a rise of 2.9% from July 2018 to July 2019 and a rise of 5.8% from July 2017 to July 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

June 2020 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI)

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.9% in June from May, rising for the second consecutive month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). From June 2019 to June 2020, the index fell 7.6% compared to a rise of 1.2% from June 2018 to June 2019 and a rise of 8.7% from June 2017 to June 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

May 2020 Freight Index (TSI) Up 1.6% in Largest One-Month Rise in Two Years

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 1.6% in May from April, rising after a three-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). From May 2019 to May 2020, the index fell 8.5% compared to a rise of 2.1% from May 2018 to May 2019 and a rise of 8.4% from May 2017 to May 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

Reduction in April 2020 Freight Movement Largest since 2009 Recession

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 7.7% in April from March, falling for the third consecutive month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). From April 2019 to April 2020, the index fell 10.0% compared to a rise of 2.7% from April 2018 to April 2019 and a rise of 8.0% from April 2017 to April 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

March 2020 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI)

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.5% in March from February, rising after a one-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). From March 2019 to March 2020, the index fell 0.9% compared to a rise of 1.8% from March 2018 to March 2019 and a rise of 8.4% from March 2017 to March 2018 (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).
