U.S. Airlines Report Third Quarter 2020 Losses

U.S. scheduled passenger airlines reported a third-quarter 2020 after-tax net loss of $11.8 billion and a pre-tax operating loss of $15.9 billion.

 

These third-quarter losses are the third consecutive quarterly losses following 27 consecutive quarterly after-tax net profits and 35 consecutive quarterly pre-tax operating profits. One year earlier, in the third quarter of 2019, the airlines reported an after-tax net profit of $4.6 billion and a pre-tax operating profit of $6.4 billion.

Air Travel Consumer Report: September 2020 and 3rd Quarter 2020 Numbers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation today released its November 2020 Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on reporting marketing and operating air carrier data compiled for the month of September 2020.  The full consumer report and other aviation consumer matters of interest to the public can be found at http://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer.

September 2020 North American Transborder Freight Up 3.2% from August 2020

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in September 2020:

Total Transborder freight: $96.4 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, up 3.2% compared to August 2020 and up 6.0% from July 2020.

Transborder freight value in September was down 4.9% compared to September 2019.

Most-used mode: Trucks moved $63.5 billion of freight, up 4.3% compared to August 2020, down 0.8% compared to September 2019.

Second most-used mode: Railways moved $13.8 billion of freight, down 0.3% compared to August 2020, down 6.9% compared to September 2019.
