3rd-Quarter 2012 Domestic Air Fares Rose 1.8% from 3rd Quarter 2011

Average domestic air fares rose to $367 in the third quarter of 2012, up 1.8 percent from the average fare of $361 in the third quarter of 2011 (Table 1), the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.  Huntsville, Ala., had the highest average fare, $522, while Atlantic City, N.J., had the lowest, $133 (Table 3).

Freight Shipments Rose 1.7% in November from October

The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.7 percent in November from October, rising after a one-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today. The November 2012 index level (108.9) was 15.5 percent above the April 2009 low during the recession (Tables 1, 2A).
