Manuscript Guidelines and Author Instructions

JT&S publishes original basic and applied research featuring planning, engineering, statistical, and economic analysis aimed at improving public and private mobility and safety in all modes of transportation. Previous volumes of the Journal can be found at: http://www.bts.gov/publications/journal_of_transportation_and_statistics/

How To Submit a Paper for Consideration

Submission of a paper implies that it contains original work that has not previously been published and that is not being considered for publication elsewhere.  Publication in a Proceedings or as a working paper does not disqualify a paper.

Articles submitted for initial consideration should contain three sections: author information and title of paper, abstract, and the article itself.  In addition to the title, the author information should contain your name, address, phone and fax numbers, and email address; and alternative contact details if you will be away for any length of time.

The abstract should be about 100 words and briefly describe the contents of the paper, including the mode(s) of transportation covered, research method, and key results or conclusions. Also include a list of keywords.

The article can be any length, but economy of words and plain language when applicable are encouraged. Submission of papers of international origin are encouraged, but should first be edited by someone whose first language is English and is familiar with the research area.

Manuscript Particulars

Use the online U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual, 2008 for rules on capitalization, number usage, word compounding, abbreviation, and spelling. References follow the style outlined in the Chicago Manual of Style.
