This map is color coded to illustrate the percentages of motorcyclists killed while not wearing a helmet in 2022. The west coast falls below 10 percent. The east coast generally falls between 0 and 40 percent. Rhode Island is an outlier at 80 percent. Middle America generally falls between 40 and 80 percent. Nebraska is an outlier at 8 percent. Hawaii is at 68 percent, Alaska is at 38 percent, and Puerto Rico is at 46 percent.

Notes:

“Pedestrian” includes in crossings, not in crossings, and walking along track. “Other” includes those killed outside of a vehicle that do not fit in any other category. “Other vehicle occupant” includes the number of occupants of other vehicles killed.
