The February 2025 emissions trends release updates data methodologies across several periods: it retains improved estimation procedures introduced in 2023 for 2002–2019 to ensure consistency, uses the 2020 National Emissions Inventory (NEI) alongside modeling platforms for 2020–2022, incorporates the updated 2023 NEI, carries 2023 data forward for most 2024 figures, and introduces 2025 estimates focused primarily on power plant emissions (NOx and SO2) and draft wildfire data while carrying 2024 estimates forward for all other categories.
