Note:

Changes in methodology in 2004 and 2017 make estimates before and after not comparable. Ownership costs include insurance, license, registration, taxes, depreciation, and finance charges. Estimates are for new vehicles driven 15,000 miles a year for 5 years. Estimates not available for used vehicles.
