US Airlines gain $5.5 billion in second quarter 2023, an improvement over second quarter 2022

U.S. scheduled passenger airlines reported a second-quarter 2023 after-tax net gain of $5.5 billion and a pre-tax operating gain of $7.7 billion.

U.S. airline industry (passenger and cargo airlines combined) employment increased to 803,893 workers in July 2023, 2,058 (0.26%) more workers than in June 2023 (801,835) and 60,853 (8.19%) more than in pre-pandemic July 2019 (743,040).

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on airline operational data compiled for the month of May 2023 for on-time performance, mishandled baggage, and mishandled wheelchairs and scooters.
