May 2018 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI)

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 1.0 percent in May from April, reaching a new all-time high after falling slightly in April. The May 2018 index level (135.6) was 43.0 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 0.1 percent in April from March, falling after reaching an all-time high in March. The April 2018 index level (134.3) was 41.7 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 1.4 percent in March from February, rising for the second consecutive month to reach an all-time high. The March 2018 index level (130.8) was 38.0 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 0.1 percent in February from January, falling for the second consecutive month. The February 2018 index level (127.5) was 34.5 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 0.4 percent in January from December, falling after reaching an all-time high in December, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). The January 2018 index level (132.3) was 39.7 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.
