BTS Releases WMATA Close Call Program Report
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released WMATA Close Call Program Report 2013-2018, which details the six-year results of the close call program that encourages employees to confidentially and voluntarily report unsafe conditions or events – close calls – that could result in illness, injury, damage, or loss.
A close call is an event or condition that had the possibility for serious consequences but did not progress to an adverse safety event.
National Transportation Atlas Database Fall 2019 Update
Friday, October 25, 2019 - The Fall 2019 update to the National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) was released today with three new datasets and 10 updated datasets.
NTAD is a Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) compilation of geospatial datasets representing the nation’s transportation infrastructure, containing roadways, railways, waterways, and airports.
August 2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers
Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in August 2019:
- Total Transborder Freight: $105.1 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, down 1.7% compared to August 2018
- Most-used mode: Trucks moved $66.1 billion of freight, down 0.8% compared to August 2018
- Second mode: Railways moved $16.1 billion of freight, up 3.9% compared to August 2018
