National Census of Ferry Operators (NCFO)

On a biennial basis, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) conducts a census of all ferry operators operating in the United States and its territories.  The information collected from the census is maintained in a national ferry database containing information regarding ferry routes, vessels, passengers and vehicles carried, funding sources and other information.  BTS conducted the initial NCFO in 2006 and has subsequently conducted the NCFO in 2008, 2010, 2014, and 2016. The data collection for the next NCFO will begin in the Spring of 2018.

Industry Snapshots

Industry Snapshots, developed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, uses information from the Transportation Satellite Accounts (TSAs) and other sources to highlight the role of for-hire and business-related in-house transportation in the production process for all of the non-transportation sectors listed in the U.S. Input Output (I-O) accounts.

Transportation Statistics Annual Report

The Transportation Statistics Annual Report (TSAR) describes the Nation’s transportation system, the system’s performance, its contributions to the economy, and its effects on people and the environment. This report is based on information collected or compiled by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), a principle Federal statistical agency at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
