Motor Fuel Prices – January 2026

Today, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released monthly motor fuels prices for January 2026. 

In January 2026, the average price for regular motor gasoline was $2.81 per gallon; down 2.9% from December 2025 and down 8.7% from January 2025.

By region, the average price for regular motor gasoline in January 2026 was and year-over-year change:

  • West Coast: $3.68 (down 4.1%)
  • Central Atlantic: $2.90 (down 8.2%)
  • New England: $2.81 (down 6.0%)
  • Lower Atlantic: $2.68 (down 9.6%)
  • Midwest: $2.63 (down 10.5%)
  • Rocky Mountain: $2.46 (down 15.1%)
  • Gulf Coast: $2.40 (down 10.3%)

The average price for diesel no. 2 was $3.52 in January 2026, down 2.5% from December 2025, and down 3.1% from January 2025.
