National Transportation Atlas Database Summer 2019 Update

Friday, July 19, 2019 - The Summer 2019 update to the National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) was released today with one new dataset and 11 updated datasets.

NTAD is a Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) compilation of geospatial datasets representing the nation’s transportation infrastructure, containing roadways, railways, waterways, and airports.

January 2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in January 2019:

  • Most-used mode: Truck moved $63.1 billion of freight, up 4.1% compared to January 2018
  • Second mode: Rail moved $12.9 billion of freight, down 3.0% compared to January 2018

December 2018 North American Transborder Freight Numbers

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in December 2018:

  • Most-used mode: Truck moved $57.4 billion of freight, up 1.0 percent compared to December 2017
  • Second mode: Rail moved $14.2 billion of freight, up 4.1 percent compared to December 2017
