National Transportation Noise Map
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) initial National Transportation Noise Map, released today, shows that more than 97 percent of the U.S. population has the potential to be exposed to noise from aviation and Interstate highways at levels below 50 decibels or roughly comparable to the noise level of a humming refrigerator.

U.S Airlines and Foreign Airlines U.S. Passengers Continue to Increase from 2009
Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today reported that 803.5 million scheduled passengers traveled on U.S. airlines and on foreign airlines serving the United States in 2011. This is a 1.7 percent increase from 2010 (Table 1). The 2011 passenger total was 4.3 percent higher than in 2009 (Table 2).
