Air Travel Consumer Report: May 2019 Numbers
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its July 2019 Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on reporting marketing and operating air carrier data compiled for the month of May 2019. May On-Time Performance
In May 2019, reporting marketing carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 77.9%, down from both the 79.8% on-time rate in April 2019 and from 79.2% in May 2018.
May 2019 U.S. Passenger Airline Employment Data
The 21 U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 2.2% more workers in May 2019 than in May 2018:
- May’s 447,985 full-time equivalents (FTE) was the highest total for any month since April 2003 (449,288 FTEs).
- May was the 67th consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
First Quarter 2019 Air Fare Data
First quarter 2019 average domestic itinerary air fare: $353.
Adjusted for inflation, (constant 2019 dollars) the 1Q 2019 air fare was:
- Up 0.3% from 1Q 2018 ($352)
- Down 2.0% from 4Q 2018 ($361)
- Down 15.5% from 1Q 2015 ($418)
