Air Travel Consumer Report: March 2020 and 1st Quarter 2020 Numbers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation today released its May 2020 Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on reporting marketing and operating air carrier data compiled for the month of March 2020.  The full consumer report and other aviation consumer matters of interest to the public can be found at http://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer.

 

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency has resulted in significant changes to airline schedules and operations, contributing to airlines’ on-time performance and cancellation statistics in March 2020.  

February 2020 U.S. Airline Traffic Data

U.S. airlines carried 78.3 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in February 2020, seasonally-adjusted, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS), down 0.6% from January.

BTS is withholding the scheduled release of estimated U.S. airlines’ traffic data for March and April because the estimates are statistical forecasts based on previous trends. The estimates do not account for the impact of the coronavirus.
