January 2019 U.S. Passenger Airline Employment Data

The 21 U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 2.8 percent more workers in January 2019 than in January 2018:

  • January’s 441,783 full-time equivalents (FTE) was the highest January employment total since January 2003 (466,881 FTEs).
  • January was the 63rd consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.

Air Travel Consumer Report: December 2018 Numbers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its February 2019 Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on marketing and reporting air carrier data compiled for the month of December 2018 and calendar year 2018.  The full consumer report and other aviation consumer matters of interest to the public can be found at http://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer.

January 2019 Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI)

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.4 percent in January from December, rising after a one-month decline but increasing for the fifth out of the last six months. For the year from January 2018, the index rose 4.7 percent compared to 5.3 percent for the previous 12-month period (Table 4).
