Tuesday, December 11, 2012 - Airlines reported two tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights but no tarmac delays of more than four hours on international flights in October, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report released today.
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 - The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry fell 1.9 percent in October from September, declining after a one-month increase, according to the U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today.
BTS, a part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, reported that the 10 largest airlines, as ranked by total number of passengers in the third quarter, achieved an operating profit margin - as a group - in each of the last six quarters.
Thursday, December 20, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines carried 57.4 million scheduled domestic and international passengers in September 2012, 1.7 percent fewer domestic passengers and 2.8 percent more international passengers than in September 2011.
Friday, December 21, 2012 - U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 384,310 workers in October 2012, 1.3 percent fewer than in October 2011, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.
BTS reports average fares based on domestic itinerary fares. Itinerary fares consist of round-trip fares, unless the customer does not purchase a return trip. In that case, the one-way fare is included. Fares are based on the total ticket value, which consists of the price charged by the airlines plus any additional taxes and fees levied by an outside entity at the time of purchase.
