Freight Shipments Rose 1.2% in November from October

The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 1.2 percent in November from October, rebounding from a one-month delcine to reach its highest all-time level, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today.

U.S. - NAFTA Trade Exceeds $100B for First Time on Record

U.S. trade with its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico in October 2013 was $103.1 billion, up 4.5 percent from October 2012 and exceeding $100 billion for the first month on record, according to freight data released today by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (Table 1). 

Scheduled Passenger Airlines Report Larger Net Profit in 3rd-Quarter of 2013

U.S. scheduled passenger airlines reported a net profit of $3.2 billion in the third quarter of 2013, an increase from a profit of $1.4 billion in the third quarter of 2012, the U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today in a release of preliminary data (Table 1).

American Industry Shipped 11.7 Billion Tons of Goods in 2012

American manufacturers and related industries shipped almost 11.7 billion tons of goods valued at more than $13.6 trillion in 2012, according to preliminary numbers from the 2012 Commodity Flow Survey (CFS) released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau.

Three of the five transportation modes carried more U.S.-NAFTA trade in September 2013 than in September 2012 as the value of overall U.S. trade with its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, rose 5.0 percent from year to year, according to the September NAFTA freight data released today by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (Table 1).

Personal Vehicles Entered the United States Nearly 96 Million Times in 2012

Personal vehicles entered the United States nearly 96 million times in 2012, 33.1 million from Canada, and 62.7 million from Mexico, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS).  Border crossings also included 10.7 million trucks, 320 thousand buses, and 37 thousand trains in 2012 (Table 1).
