Intercity Bus Atlas Expands into Fall

Thursday, November 5, 2026

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) announces the Fall 2026 update to the Intercity Bus Atlas, an interactive, digital mapping application of all scheduled, intercity passenger bus services in the United States.

This logo is for the Intercity Bus Atlas project, depicted with a graphic of an over-the-road bus.

With this update, the Atlas now features 3,928 stops and 1,947 routes, representing the networks of 49 scheduled intercity bus providers, an increase of 3 providers from the last update in August 2026. Visualizing scheduled intercity bus operations in every region of the United States, the Atlas’ data are sourced directly from providers, all of whom volunteered their schedule and network information to BTS for this program.

This update highlights BTS as the continued federal home of the only regularly updated, comprehensive, public map of the scheduled intercity bus network of the United States. The Atlas provides researchers, policymakers, and planners with national-level data on the availability and connectivity of a mode of long-distance passenger transportation missing from the Department’s suite of statistical and cartographic products.

This screenshot is of the Intercity Bus Atlas web map application user interface. It depicts lines of the scheduled intercity bus routes and a user may either type to search for places or use the drop-down menu to isolate the routes and stops of specific carriers. The map also includes a title bar at the top with the Intercity Bus Atlas logo.

Users are welcome to download the geospatial files representing the stops and routes of the national network from the National Transportation Atlas Database.

BTS will update the Intercity Bus Atlas on a quarterly basis, using the newest schedule and network data from participating carriers. Future versions of the ICBA will include additional carriers as well as route and stop frequency.
