January 2017 Airline On-Time Arrival Rate Down From January 2016, Up from December 2016

WASHINGTON – The reporting carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 76.0 percent in January 2017, down from the 81.3 percent on-time rate in January 2016, but up from the 75.6 percent mark in December 2016, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) released today. 

The reporting carriers canceled 2.0 percent of their scheduled domestic flights in January 2017, an improvement over the 2.6 percent cancellation rate posted in January 2016, but up from the 1.6 percent rate in December 2016.

2016 Flight Cancellation, Mishandled Baggage, and Bumping Rates are Lowest in Decades

WASHINGTON – In 2016, the reporting carriers canceled 1.17 percent of their scheduled domestic flights, an improvement over the 1.5 percent cancellation rate in 2015 and the lowest in the 22 years with comparable numbers, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) released today.  The previous low was 1.24 percent in 2002.  The reporting carriers canceled 1.6 percent of their scheduled domestic flights in December 2016, an improvement over the 1.7 percent cancellation rate posted in December 2015, but up from the 0.3 percent rate in November 2016.

Flight Cancellations, Mishandled Baggage Rate at All-Time Low

WASHINGTON – The reporting carriers canceled 0.29 percent of their scheduled domestic flights in November 2016, the lowest for any of the 263 months with comparable records beginning in January 1995, and below the previous low of 0.33 percent in September 2016, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) released today.  The reporting carriers canceled 1.0 percent of their flights in both November 2015 and October 2016.

Airline On-Time Performance, Cancellation Rate in January Improve from Last Year

Thursday, March 15, 2012 - The nation's largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 83.7 percent in January, up from the 76.3 percent on-time rate of January 2011, but down slightly from December 2011's 84.4 percent rate, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report released today. On-time arrival performance during January 2012 was the highest January on-time arrival percentage in the 18 years with comparable numbers.

Airline On-Time Performance, Cancellation Rate in February Improve from Last Year; Mishandled Baggage Rate at All-Time Low

Thursday, April 12, 2012 - The nation's largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 86.2 percent in February, up from both the 74.5 percent on-time rate of February 2011 and from January 2012's 83.7 percent rate, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report released today. The on-time arrival performance during February 2012 was the highest February percentage on record since comparable on-time data was first reported in 1995.

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - The nation's largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 83.4 percent in May, up from the 77.1 percent on-time rate of May 2011, but slightly down from April 2012's 86.3 percent rate, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report released today.
