The Longer Route to School
Wednesday, September 4, 2019 - More than half of pre-high school students in the United States—about 20 million children in 2016 aged 5-14—travel over 2 miles to school. At these distances, students are nearly evenly split between taking a school bus and being driven in a private vehicle. For many students, however, additional factors often make the school bus their only practical means of transportation, notably household income and vehicle ownership:

June 2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers
Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in June 2019:
- Total Transborder Freight: $103.8 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, down 2.3% compared to June 2018
- Most-used mode: Trucks moved $65.6 billion of freight, down 1.5% compared to June 2018
- Second mode: Railways moved $15.8 billion of freight, up 0.5% compared to June 2018
June 2019 U.S. Passenger Airline Employment Data
The 21 U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 2.4% more workers in June 2019 than in June 2018:
- June’s 449,985 full-time equivalents (FTE) was the highest employment total for any month since March 2003 (458,598 FTEs).
- June was the 68th consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
