U.S Airlines and Foreign Airlines U.S. Passengers Continue to Increase from 2009

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today reported that 803.5 million scheduled passengers traveled on U.S. airlines and on foreign airlines serving the United States in 2011. This is a 1.7 percent increase from 2010 (Table 1)The 2011 passenger total was 4.3 percent higher than in 2009 (Table 2).

Freight Shipments Rose 0.5% in February from January

Wednesday, April 11, 2012 - The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 0.5 percent in February from January, rising after a one-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today (Table 1).

January 2012 Airline System Traffic Up 1.1 Percent from January 2011

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines carried 54.3 million scheduled domestic and international passengers in January 2012, 1.3 percent more domestic passengers and 0.4 percent fewer international passengers than in January 2011.

Airline On-Time Performance, Cancellation Rate in February Improve from Last Year; Mishandled Baggage Rate at All-Time Low

Thursday, April 12, 2012 - The nation's largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 86.2 percent in February, up from both the 74.5 percent on-time rate of February 2011 and from January 2012's 83.7 percent rate, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report released today. The on-time arrival performance during February 2012 was the highest February percentage on record since comparable on-time data was first reported in 1995.

4th-Quarter Domestic Air Fares Rose 10% from 4th Quarter 2010

Monday, April 30, 2012 - Average domestic air fares rose to $368 in the fourth quarter of 2011, up 10 percent from the average fare of $335 in the fourth quarter of 2010 (Table 1), the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. Cincinnati had the highest average fare, $502, while Atlantic City, NJ, had the lowest, $189 (Table 3).
