BTS 20th Anniversary Marked

Friday, October 19, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) celebrated its 20th anniversary this week. BTS, a part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA), was created by legislation in 1991 and formally organized in 1992 as a designated federal statistical agency having the primary purpose of collecting, compiling and disseminating transportation statistics.

July 2012 Airline System Traffic Down 1.1 Percent from July 2011

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines carried 69.2 million scheduled domestic and international passengers in July 2012, 1.1 percent fewer domestic passengers and 1.0 percent fewer international passengers than in July 2011.

Intermodal Passenger Connectivity Database

Friday, October 26, 2012 - More than half of all U.S. transportation terminals offer intermodal passenger connectivity among at least two scheduled passenger transportation modes, according to a new passenger connectivity database released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

August 2012 Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Rose 2.6 Percent From August 2011

Tuesday, October 30, 2012 - Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, was 2.6 percent higher in August 2012 than in August 2011, totaling $82.5 billion, unadjusted for inflation (Table 1 and Figure 1), according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Freight Shipments Rose 0.2% in September from August

Thursday, November 15, 2012 - The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 0.2 percent in September from August, rising after a one-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics' (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today.
