The average domestic air fare rose to $347 in the fourth quarter of 2017, rising 3.0 percent from $337 in the third quarter of 2016, which was the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly average fare in 23 years of air fare records, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.
The average domestic air fare decreased to $336 in the third quarter of 2017, the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly fare in 23 years of air fare records (Table 1), the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. The previous low quarter since BTS began collecting air fare data in 1995 was $346 in the second quarter of 2009.
The average domestic air fare, adjusted for inflation, decreased to $356 in the second quarter of 2017, down 0.9 percent from $359 in the second quarter of 2016 but up 1.2 percent from $352 in the first quarter of 2017 (Tables 1, 3), the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.
