2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in 2019:

  • Total Transborder Freight: $1.2 trillion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, down 0.2% from 2018
  • Most-used mode: Truck moved $772 billion of freight, virtually unchanged compared to 2018
  • Second most-used mode: Rail moved $179 billion of freight, down 0.2% compared to 2018

December 2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in December 2019:

  • Total Transborder Freight: $96.3 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, up 4.0% compared to December 2018
  • Most-used mode: Trucks moved $57.2 billion of freight, down 0.3% compared to December 2018
  • Second most-used mode: Railways moved $14.4 billion of freight, up 1.9% compared to December 2018

November 2019 North American Transborder Freight Numbers

Transborder freight between the U.S. and other North American countries (Canada and Mexico) in November 2019:

  • Total Transborder Freight: $99.0 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, down 3.9% compared to November 2018
  • Most-used mode: Trucks moved $62.7 billion of freight, down 4.1% compared to November 2018
  • Second most-used mode: Railways moved $14.0 billion of freight, down 7.4% compared to November 2018
