May 2012 Airline System Traffic Down 0.3 Percent from May 2011

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines carried 63.7 million scheduled domestic and international passengers in May 2012, 0.4 percent fewer domestic passengers and 0.7 percent more international passengers than in May 2011. 

June 2012 Passenger Airline Employment Rose 1.4 Percent from June 2011

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 - U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 1.4 percent more workers in June 2012 than they did in June 2011, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today. Scheduled passenger airline categories include network, low-cost, regional and other airlines. 

Freight Shipments Rose 0.1% in July from June

Thursday, September 13, 2012 - The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 0.1 percent in July from June, rising after a one-month decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics' (BTS) Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) released today.

Friday, September 21, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today that U.S. airlines carried 66.6 million scheduled domestic and international passengers in June 2012, 0.2 percent more domestic passengers and 2.8 percent more international passengers than in June 2011.

July 2012 Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Rose 4.6 Percent From July 2011

Thursday, September 27, 2012 - Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, was 4.6 percent higher in July 2012 than in July 2011, totaling $75.7 billion, unadjusted for inflation (Table 1 and Figure 1), according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

New Advisory Council on Transportation Statistics Members Named

BTS is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).

National Transportation Statistics Updated

Friday, October 19, 2012 - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), a part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA), today updated National Transportation Statistics (NTS) – a web-only reference guide to national-level transportation data. NTS, updated quarterly, includes a wide range of national transportation information, such as the table showing that coastwise waterborne freight travels 1,169 miles on average, the longest distance of domestic freight shipped on any mode, slightly more than the 1,157 miles traveled by air freight.
